Everyone in life faces uncertainties, the unpredictable, the bad, the ugly, and even the occasional crisis or two. But not everyone has the appropriate resources to deal with them.

Some weather the storms and shakings to emerge stronger, while others buckle under the buffetings to end up doubting, anxious, distressed, and even depressed. To make matters worse, such “down feelings” are often aggravated by the opposite “up feelings” of others.

To overcome and emerge strong, we need to recognize and understand that depression and the like are not just mental and emotional states; they often are responses that impact the whole person – spirit, soul, and body; expressions of past wounding and negative experiences that have affected and shaped our perceptions of life. These deep rooted issues need to be identified and resolved in order for us to experience healing and wholeness.

This Talk emphasizes how a wholistic "lifestyle medicine" approach and the work of the Cross are central to winning the battle over depression and its debilitating consequences.

What began as an outbreak of Corona Disease 2019 (Covid-19) in one part of the world eventually escalated into the global Covid-19 pandemic.

In its wake, the pandemic left behind much pain, massive loss and grief, loneliness, isolation, loss of income, separation from family, debilitating fears and anxieties, besides triggering mental conditions or exacerbating existing ones.

Psychologically, this disruption of normal life challenged our emotions, attitudes, responses and coping mechanisms. More importantly, the pandemic also exposed deep fears, weaknesses, and vulnerabilities we were not aware we had.

Understanding why we are so easily shaken, affected, and unnerved - and their origins in our past life experiences - will help us renew, refresh and rebuild coming out of the crisis.

For the believer, fear and faith will always contest for a place in their lives.

Let fear be defeated and faith overcome and arise.

How is it that as believers we are still troubled by deep pain, suffering, mental and emotional anguish of spirit, soul and body? Who or what is at the root of such crippling distresses?

The answer lies in the inner person and to the untreated and unhealed wounds and hurts of a lifetime growing up. Such invisible wounds are as real as broken bodies and broken bones.

The mother-root of such pain is REJECTION: an inability to give or to receive love; the outcome of being frequently deprived or denied love, affirmation, security, and vital nurture. Rejection in turn manifests in insecurity, unworthiness, insignificance, low self-esteem, and a broken heart.

Therefore, understanding deep pain, its mother-root in Rejection, and the power of the finished work of Christ are critical to healing from Rejection and its fruits, and returning to a destiny in God of joy, abundant living, and fulfilment in Christ.

Can Psychology and Biblical Christianity be bedfellows? And are the apparent incompatibilities between them real or imagined? These are questions every well-meaning believer seeking healing for the whole person need to know the answers to.

Where Christians are concerned, it is critical that any true and lasting healing modality be built on biblical foundations and truths, i.e., God and His Word. Psychology, on the other hand, being secular and humanistic at heart, falls short in comparison.

Using Christian terms and processes associated with Christianity do not necessarily transform an otherwise secular therapy into a biblical or godly one. In fact, it can pose a danger to believers who may not be aware of the differences.

This 2-part presentation takes an overview look at the topic with a view to helping believers navigate a safe passage through the sea of varied arguments and discussions to arrive at a safe end to their quest.
